Community Events: May

May 1, 2015

1. Wanderlust 108 Melbourne

On May 16th, take part in a triathlon with a “mindful” difference. Wanderlust 108 Melbourne will bring together three events that above all aim to bring out inner wellness: a 5 km run, an outdoor yoga experience and a guided meditation. Along the way, you can also stop to listen to live music or browse some of the local food and craft vendors on site. Wanderlust 108 is unlike any triathlon you’ve seen before, placing “community above competition, inner peace above power, and self-awareness above strength.” Buy your tickets here.

2. Victorian Fair Trade Festival

Throughout May, Moral Fairground will be hosting a series of fair trade events, aimed to create awareness and encourage sustainable and fair trade within the community. Support this cause by heading along to a host of markets, ethical fashion shows or by viewing a documentary on sustainability. All event details can be found at the Moral Fairground website.

3. Million Paws Walk

In a day that will see over 25,000 people take to Victoria’s parks, the Million Paws Walk is a great way to fight animal cruelty and raise funds for the RSPCA and animals in shelters. You can set up your own fundraising page or simply grab your pup, a group of friends and head to one of the 16 locations hosting a walk on May 17th to help raise money for animals in need. Event details can be found here.

4. Lyme Disease Awareness Month

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month, an initiative to create discussion about a condition deemed ‘Australian’s hidden epidemic.’ As the world’s fastest growing tick-borne illness, Lyme Disease could now be affecting someone you know. A close friend of The Kindness Effect has been suffering with this life changing illness and the strategy is simple in generating awareness and much-needed funds to support those affected in Australia. See website for closest event information.

6. World’s Biggest Morning Tea

1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85. Get your workplace, family or friends involved in a cause that is imperative to bettering the future of health in Australia. Register here for all information.

7. International AIDS Candlelight Memorial

Join Living Positive Victoria in supporting communities around the world affected by HIV and Aids at this Candlelight Memorial.
